Frequently Asked Questions

When do I have to join by?

Usually in October. Contact Tom Budinger for more information.

Do I have to be good to be on the team?

No! Most people start the team without previous racing experience, but a lot of people get pretty good after some practice. There is certainly no experience required. Heck, you do not even have to know how to ski, people on the team are happy to teach you what we can. Only the highest scores count towards anything, so if you aren't awesome you aren't hurting the team. It's all-just for fun anyway. Ohio State usually dominates in Ohio simply because we have the most people (and the most good skiers by default) plus we actually have practices.

How much will it cost me to join ski team?

This years cost is TBD. Expect to drop between $200 and $300, including team dues, depending on the type of pass you buy.

Is there a big time commitment?

You can ski as often or as little as you want with ski team. We have carpools every Tuesday and Wednesday all season long for practice, and then for five weeks, we go out on Saturday and Sunday for races. Three of those races are at Snowtrails and two are at Boston Mills/Brandywine. All of the practice and races are optional. Last year I went to about half the practices and two of the races. Hardly anyone goes to EVERYTHING. Most people either pick Tuesday or Wednesday to go and do not go on both days. If you opt not to race at all, you do not have to pay our $40 race fee.

Do you have meetings?

Yes we do have meetings but only for really really important things. We don't really have any throughout the season outside of social events. We traditionally have these two meetings every year: An informational meeting in early October An end of the year "annual ski team cookout" where we pick the following years officers Other meetings are scheduled as needed.

Can I race on ski blades?

Sure you can! People compete on all kinds of skis. Of course those with the high end race skis are going to have an advantage. You would be competing against the same gender. People with ski blades compete against skiers. There are also races for snowboarders. Of course, you don't have to compete and can just ski with us for fun if you want and you don't have to pay our $40 race fee.
